MAYA

UW Nanorobotics Group -
Fall 2020 to Winter 2021

Imagine if we could automate surgery or target drug delivery. This inspiration is driving the crux of performing complex operations at the nano-scale. We are currently prototyping and simulating the behaviour of the magnetic flux pinning yielded by our YBCO superconductor. I have worked on automating the microrobot's system in Java and translating the electric/magnetic response in COMSOL Multiphysics software.

Scanning Tunneling Microscope

Course Project - Mar 2020

What makes a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) special compared to a light microscope? An STM is used to achieve 3D atomic-scale images of materials using the quantum tunneling effect. I designed a vibration isolation system for the STM using SolidWorks in order to combat the sensitivity of ground-based vibration. Once the design was developed, the build for a scanner head assembly and current-amplifier circuit was en route. I was able to apply electrochemical etching lab techniques and produced a sharp tip that minimized vibration. As a result, I was able to achieve consistent tunneling current signals.

Mariokart Inspired Soapbox Car

Course Project - Dec 2019

As a final project to flesh out our 3D CAD skills after a semester of designing automobile parts, we modelled a full end-to-end design of a Mariokart inspired soapbox car using SolidWorks. I took lead in sketching and assembling the structural frame, wheels, and seats. I learned how to construct a steering mechanism and use Solidworks animation tools to exhibit the motion study.

Haptics Gait Training

UW Biomechatronics - Fall 2019

I've always had a passion for innovating technology in the healthcare sector. This lead me to join UW Biomechatronics Haptics team with a special focus in electrical hardware. Our mission was to use Haptics technology to train users with Parkinson's disease by providing feedback if their gait was not aligned. We prototyped a haptics wearable IMU sensor to track motion cycles and generated reports. I learned how to mount an MPU6050 and worked on troubleshooting Arduino sensor issues.

3D Printed Cell Model

ProtoMD - Winter 2020

Often times learning cell biology requires a visual, live model. With this driving need, we designed a 3D printed cell model to be used by high school biology laboratories in the KW region to articulate the steps of protein production. I outlined an interactive, moving part design to provide hands-on learning. Combing molecular biology and mechanical concepts, I also modelled the cell organelles, specifically the nucleus and nucleus pores in SolidWorks.

Music Sheet Transcriber

Personal Project - Winter 2022

Reading sheet music is known to be one of the hardest skills to adopt when learning piano. This OMR (Optical Music Recognition) web application transcribes and annotates monophonic music scores into ABC notation to ease the process of learning piano. This web app is created with Python and Flask on a tensorflow model built by Calvo-Zaragoza et al. on their work End-to-End Neural Optical Music Recognition of Monophonic Scores
